From when we were in pre-school we were slammed by the question “what do you want to be when you grow up?” And I am sure we all had an idea of what we wanted to become – a lawyer, a police officer, a scientist, an astronaut.

But as we grew older our minds started to change and we started asking ourselves what’s the next move, what’s our passion, what will bring long-term happiness and stability.

And if you are in this situation right now, then keep on reading. Yes, yes, it sounds pretty scary going through a career-crisis, but here I am shedding some positivity into your worries! If you want the career of your dreams, then read on, there maybe a few tips for future reference.

Questioning your current career is a great opportunity for you to evaluate your purpose at work, how do you contribute to the success of the team, what motivates you, and what are your overall needs. So, how do you make sure you are in your dream career?

  • Find a career that gives you purpose – no need to save someone’s life or the world from crashing down, but at the end of day you should feel accomplished on a daily basis. You should feel like your hard work makes a difference to you, your team and the company.
  • Skills that give you pride – any skills that make you, you – extremely organized individual who everyone relies on; jovial that makes everyone’s day a lot brighter. Having special skills that make you the person you are is crucial, but knowing that your team depends on you for them is the key.
  • Meaningful day-to-day – sitting behind your desk all day feeling sluggish is not going to cut it! You might be expected to be available and reachable around the clock, and this is why it is crucial that your dream career is both inspiring and fulfilling. Your work should feel rewarding and satisfying, if you feel stressed, overwhelmed and on the verge of tears, then you should reconsider your role!
  • Should be about who you are and what you value – a successful career will be a reflection of who you are. Take into consideration the company’s values, culture and mission – are you on the same page as them? Do you believe in their vision? If the answer is no, then this is a hint!
  • What do you want in the future – everyone has their own dreams and needs, but it is one thing to dream, another to work towards your dream. You must know what you want to accomplish in your career, but you must also understand the steps needed to get there.

Chasing your dream career has been made so much easier with today’s technologies and social changes – now you have an extensive list of options to choose from, you have emerging fields that never existed before. And this gives you ample opportunities to find the perfect job and the career of your dreams.
