You will join a collaborative team responsible for producing, editing, and publishing official transcripts and reports. Working alongside experienced professionals, you will play an important role in preserving accurate records while supporting high standards of governance and accountability.
Responsibilities and Duties
As a Hansard Editor, you will:
- Edit and proofread transcripts of parliamentary proceedings, committee meetings, and official hearings to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Listen to digital audio recordings to verify content and ensure proceedings are correctly attributed.
- Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, formatting, and style while maintaining the original meaning and context.
- Conduct research to verify quotations, names, organisations, locations, and factual references.
- Prepare, format, and distribute transcripts for review and incorporate approved amendments where required.
- Assist with the indexing, publication, and archiving of official reports and records.
- Maintain databases and support the production of electronic and PDF publications.
- Undertake research and administrative tasks in support of senior stakeholders and parliamentary operations.
Qualifications and Skills
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- An Associate's degree in a relevant field with office or secretarial experience involving editing and proofreading, or significant equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience editing, proofreading, and reviewing professional documents.
- Excellent knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and written comprehension.
- Strong research, fact-checking, and information verification skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Word and document formatting skills.
- Accurate keyboarding and transcription abilities.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication skills, discretion, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
