Nova Recruitment Announces 2026 Education Grant Recipient
Nova Recruitment is pleased to announce that Meisha McDermott has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 Nova Education Grant.
The annual grant is awarded to support promising Caymanians who have demonstrated academic achievement, determination, and a commitment to making a positive contribution to their community and profession.
Meisha will be attending the University of Reading in the United Kingdom, where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science with Professional Experience. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies, she intends to continue her medical education with the goal of becoming a dermatologist and returning to the Cayman Islands to contribute to the local healthcare sector.
Throughout her academic career, Meisha has consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment to excellence. She graduated among the top students in her high school class and later completed an Associate Degree in Science with a concentration in Biology and Chemistry while maintaining a 3.91 GPA. Her accomplishments were recognised through multiple academic honours, including the Health City Award for Highest Achiever in AS Sciences.
In addition to her academic achievements, Meisha has dedicated significant time to serving her community through church ministries and volunteer activities. She has also gained practical healthcare experience through an internship with the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority, further reinforcing her passion for a career in medicine.
What makes Meisha's achievements particularly inspiring is the resilience she has shown in overcoming personal adversity. During her first year of tertiary education, she experienced the loss of her mother, who had been a source of encouragement and support throughout her life. Despite this profound challenge, Meisha remained committed to her studies, graduating with honours and maintaining her focus on her long-term goals.
Tilley Woodford, a member of Nova Recruitment's Scholarship Committee, said Meisha's application stood out for both her academic achievements and her determination to make a meaningful difference in the Cayman Islands.
